Representation in Medicine Saves Lives

Only 2.8% of all physicians in the U.S. are Black Women. This 4-part limited series aims to change that. But why does it matter?

Black infant mortality is more than double the rate for white infants. This disparity drops by more than 50% if the pediatrician is also Black. All pediatricians want their patients to thrive, but the impact of representation is undeniable.

The lack of diversity perpetuates health inequity in other areas too. The house of medicine needs to reflect the nation we serve. We are using the power of storytelling to move the needle towards true representation in medicine.

This is a long game project.

It will take years for the demographics of physicians and healthcare providers to mirror our communities. Faces of Medicine will show the next generation of physicians, some of whom may never have seen a doctor who looks like them, that they will not be alone.
